A French company based in Los Angeles launched a three-door turbo Renault 5 with carbon fiber bodywork and modern technology, which the company described as “the best possible version of the B-segment icon.”
The Renault 5 Turbo 3 was designed by a team of three at Légende Automobiles, and would be driven by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing over 400 hp, sending its reserves to the rear axle via a manual transmission. Defining styling features include 17-inch rear wheels, 16-inch front wheels, LED headlights and an integrated rear spoiler.
The car also features the latest Maxi Turbo double wishbone geometry front and rear, making the Turbo 3 wider than its predecessors.
The harness racing seats feature an embroidered fabric instrument panel incorporating a modern digital driver display, dual-zone climate switches and a minimalist steering wheel. A roll bar has also been added to the rear.
The traditional Renault badge is reminiscent of the car’s origins, but a new “Turbo 3” sticker hints at the improvements, as do the dual exhausts and completely redesigned rear lighting.
“We wanted to create a machine for people who are as passionate about driving as we are – a machine that only a handful of people around the world would still dare to try to make,” said Légende Automobiles.
“Technology has given us a lot of great things, but it has also taken away the tactile experience that we as car freaks miss in driving today. Sequential transmissions with paddle shifters have their place, but for this machine we wanted an old-fashioned mechanical shifter to give the driver full control of the turbo engine, ”the company said.
No pricing information or specific engine details have been revealed, but the company insists it “ignored all financial advice and spared no expense.”
