Rotherham’s Freddie Ladapo has final say against old Plymouth Argyle club UK News

The stands at New York’s AESSEAL Stadium were crowded for the first time since March 2020 and included more than 1,000 away supporters, who were throwing nasty chants at their former striker.

As players gathered in front of the back for a Millers corner, Argyle fans on the go took particular pleasure in telling Ladapo that they thought he wasn’t very good and that he didn’t. still wouldn’t.

Then Dan Barlaser sent his delivery, Plymouth failed to clear it and Ladapo recovered the ball at close range.

Freddie Ladapo of Rotherham United.

Suddenly Ladapo was grateful to the fans as 8,000 Millers fans produced a roar they so missed and enjoyed cupping his ears with those who had taunted him seconds before.

This put Paul Warne’s side in the lead, laying the groundwork for a game Ben Wiles solidified before half-time with a nice finish for smooth movement.

It was enough for a win as the Millers saw it in the second half and finished the first day ahead of League One.

There are only 45 left to go of course, but it was a promising start, controlled, composed and with clear room for improvement as they try to aim for an instant return to the championship for the third time.

Boss Warne, so used to seeing his team go unrewarded for their performances last season, was happy with the winning start.

“I thought we deserved the win,” he said.

“Plymouth had a lot of the ball, what we knew they would have is a very good possession-based team, but I don’t think my goalkeeper made a save.

“I thought we were the most threatening team, but we would like to have the ball more than that.

“Overall happy, not ecstatic. I’m not thrilled, I wouldn’t say it was the best performance ever, but there were pockets of really good play on our part and we really should have scored the third goal and it would have been an after – more comfortable midday.

“There was some really good performance there and that’s something we can build on. “It’s easy to criticize teams after wins because they all take criticism better. We’re going to watch the game and try to help them. But overall I am satisfied.
