Somerset records more than 500 new cases of coronavirus as another person dies Bath City News

More than 500 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Somerset, according to the latest official figures released on Wednesday August 11.

There were 508 new infections in the last 24-hour recording period, up from 280 yesterday.

Sedgemoor saw the largest increase, with 126 new cases, followed by North Somerset with 96.

There were 78 in Bath and North East Somerset, 72 in both Somerset West and Taunton and South Somerset and 64 in Mendip.

New cases of the virus bring the overall total for Somerset to 29,399.

A new death within 28 days of a positive Covid test was recorded in Mendip, while Bath and North East Somerset saw its total drop by one.

The number of positive test results in each area since the start of the pandemic is recorded below, with the new positive test results in parentheses.

Bath and North East Somerset: 13,757 (+78)
Mendip: 5,372 (+64) North Somerset: 15,357 (+96) Sedgemoor: 7,519 (+126) Somerset West and Taunton: 8,091 (+72) South Somerset: 8,108 (+72)

The number of deaths recorded in each neighborhood in Somerset since the start of the pandemic is as follows:

Mendip: 164 (+1) North Somerset: 322 (+1) Sedgemoor: 168 (-) Somerset West and Taunton: 197 (-) South Somerset: 162 (-)

Nationally, the government said 104 more people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday, bringing the UK total to 130,607.

Separate figures released by the Office for National Statistics show that there have been 155,000 registered deaths in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of 9 a.m. as of Wednesday, there had been 29,612 other laboratory-confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the UK.

Of the 86,969,109 Covid injections administered in the UK until August 10, 47,129,400 were first doses, an increase of 37,511 the day before.

Some 39,839,709 were second doses, an increase of 151,143.
