Gunther Werks 993 Speedster Remastered debuts in Monterey Car News

California Porsche customizer Gunther Werks staged the public debut of the 993 Speedster Remastered, a roofless version of its retro version of the air-cooled final 911.

The model was unveiled at The Quail as part of Monterey Car Week and features a “Cannes Green” exterior paint with an orange leather interior.

The 993 Speedster Remastered is driven by a 4.0-liter flat-six engine, which produces 435 hp and 335 lb-ft of torque and has been rebuilt by Oregon-based Rothsport Racing. The model also has adaptive suspension with Compound, Sport and Sport Plus modes.

Under the skin, a reinforced generation 993 911 chassis accommodates an open cockpit, and the firm says its rigidity has been significantly improved thanks to advanced reinforcement, a new roll cage and roll bar stiffness.

Weight saving was also a priority for the American firm, as illustrated by a hood 25% lighter than that of the equivalent coupe model. The car also receives a new front fascia with a carbon fiber front spoiler, revised ducktail spoiler and dynamic air intake for improved aerodynamics.

Inside the car, carbon fiber is used for the dashboard, steering wheel, and seats, while the model’s windshield and side windows are made from glass straight from inventory. Porsche 964 Speedster.

Customers have a number of forged Gunther Werks wheel options to choose from and can upgrade to revised Fuchs-style five-spoke wheels featuring Porsche 997 central locking mechanisms, carbon fiber barrels from Dymag and magnesium centers produced by Gunther Werks to improve strength while reducing unsprung weight.

Production is limited to just 25 models, in line with the manufacturing cycle of the firm’s coupe models. Pricing has still not been revealed, but the company says production is expected to begin in early 2022.
