Somerset records nearly 800 new coronavirus cases in one day Bath City News

Somerset has recorded 795 more cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

Today’s total (Thursday, August 19) is another increase from the 761 reported yesterday, nearly double the 382 new infections confirmed on Wednesday.

Five out of six areas saw the number of cases rise to triple digits for the second day in a row.

Statistics from Public Health England released Thursday evening (August 19) show that there are now 62,323 confirmed cases of the virus in the county since the start of the pandemic.

Among the new cases, the highest number was found in Bath and northeast Somerset, where 182 positive tests were returned.

North Somerset and Sedgemoor both had 145 while there were 126 in South Somerset and 111 in Somerset West and Taunton.

Mendip saw the smallest increase again in the past day, with 86.

No new Covid-related deaths have been recorded in Somerset today.

The number of positive test results in each area since the start of the pandemic is recorded below, with the new positive test results in parentheses.

Bath and North East Somerset: 14,580 (+182)
Mendip: 5,786 (+86) North Somerset: 16,089 (+145) Sedgemoor: 8,478 (+145) Somerset West and Taunton: 8,690 (+111) South Somerset: 8,700 (+126)

The number of deaths recorded in each neighborhood in Somerset since the start of the pandemic is as follows:

Across the country, 113 more people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 on Thursday, bringing the UK total to 131,373.

Separate figures released by the Office for National Statistics show that there have been 156,000 registered deaths in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

At 9 a.m. as of Thursday, there had been 36,572 other laboratory-confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the UK.

Government data up to August 18 shows that of the 88,617,595 Covid injections administered in the UK, 47,460,526 were first doses, an increase of 47,284 the day before.

Some 41,157,069 were second doses, an increase of 169,223.
