As part of this program, all vehicles sold across the continent from July 2022 will need to be fitted with an Intelligent Speed Assistance Tool (ISA). This will use GPS data and traffic cameras to decide if a driver is driving too fast and can subsequently restrict the power of their vehicle if they do. The UK has no obligation to follow the EU, but will likely still adopt the rules as this will help the process of standardizing manufacturing practices.
But the EU’s latest controversial plan has sparked fury among Brexiteers.
Reacting to our initial story, an Express.co.uk reader raged: “What’s next for control freaks? Are they going to claim that we all dress the same?
Another blustered: “Britain can decide whether to follow the rules or not. They don’t make the rules anymore. It’s Brexit.”
A third person said: “It is time for the UK to cut all ties with the EU.”
While another reader added: “State control. This is the EU.”
An Express.co.uk reader questioned the safety of the new proposals, warning they could lead to “tragic accidents”.
They said: “This EU proposal to impose speed limitation devices on vehicles seems absolutely dangerous and will lead to tragic accidents.
“Fortunately, as we left the dysfunctional EU, their rules no longer apply.”

He warned that companies should take a “zero tolerance” approach to drivers exceeding speed limits, while supporting new technology as it can be seen as a “real benefit” for vehicle owners.
Mr Golding insisted that drivers are likely to see fewer crashes and less speeding because of the safety features the system will provide.
Speaking to FleetNews, he said: “Our view is that the introduction of ISA technology is a moment that employers should take as an opportunity to clarify that there is no wiggle room for companies in terms of speed and the dangers it represents. “
He added: “Our point of view is that this should be presented to drivers as a real benefit.
“First, they are safer vehicles – lower speed means fewer accidents and fewer serious accidents.
Second, it will potentially remove the possibility of you taking a speeding ticket. “
