Amazon to offer bonuses of up to £ 1,000 to new ‘urgently needed’ hires Bedford News

A multinational retail giant is offering new hires sign bonuses of up to £ 1,000 in a bid to tempt new employees.

Amazon’s move is the latest sign of a recruitment and staffing shortage in UK supply chains as other companies have also been forced to raise wages or offer similar incentives .

Amazon has advertised a variety of positions through the job market site Indeed for warehouse workers across the country, saying new employees are “urgently needed.”

The announcements claim the company will be offering bonuses to anyone hired by September 18, with jobs available at locations in Darlington, Swansea, Dartford, Redditch and Coventry, among others.

The Roles offer an hourly rate of up to £ 11.10, with the potential to double that rate for overtime, although it is not clear how often this is available.

The firm says it is open to “immediate start-ups with no experience required” for many positions.

Many businesses are facing labor shortages and Amazon is struggling to cope with the increased demand for online shopping alongside these supply chain issues made worse by the lack of heavy truck drivers.

Tesco has offered higher rates to heavy truck drivers at one of its branches, although the firm’s drivers are considering strike action as other branches have not seen an equivalent increase.

While there are broader trends impacting staffing across many sectors of the economy, Amazon is also seeing particularly high staff turnover, with some blaming a tough work environment.

Some sectors have been struggling for several months, but the problem seems to have become particularly acute in recent weeks.

A number of retailers have announced commodity shortages, while many industry bodies have warned that the supply chain crisis could linger until Christmas.

Bosses of Tesco and Iceland have both warned of big shortages, while the British Meat Processors Association has warned that labor shortages could lead to a shortage of pigs in blankets during the holidays.
