Equally significant changes have been made to the interior, where flush-mounted buttons and switches give the center console a cleaner look, and the climate controls appear to have been replaced by a touch-sensitive sliding panel. As with the EV6, the central infotainment screen and digital gauge cluster occupy a stand-alone panel, while the same minimalist steering wheel, with a center spoke, has been carried over.
Kia achieves record sales in UK
As Kia celebrated 30 years in the UK market last month, it also celebrated for the first time capturing a 5% market share, in the first half of 2021. This is an increase from around 1 , 5% in 2007, and CEO Paul Philpott called it getting a “benchmark.”
With 45,300 sales in the first six months, Kia became the eighth brand in the UK, with a significantly above-average share of electrified car sales (31%, excluding mild hybrids) compared to other car makers combustion. In addition, its 6,500 sales of pure electric cars place it behind Tesla in this segment. The brand achieved record sales in April, May and June.
Philpott said: “We have an excellent backlog of orders for the third quarter which puts us on track for 90,000 full year sales which was our original plan for 2021. It was also our plan. for 2020, so we’re pretty much back where we wanted to be before Covid.
“It all depends on how much supply we can get in the second half. The demand is certainly there to reach that level of sales, and we are working closely with Korea and our European headquarters in Frankfurt to maximize supply to the UK market, and things are going well. We would like more supply, but the semiconductor shortage affects all brands.
Philpott said there is a two to three month wait for every Kia model in the UK except the Sorento, for which the brand is seeing an “incredible” demand that it “could not have been able to. provide”. Delivery times now extend to the first quarter of 2022 for this car, Philpott said, and “customers are ready to wait.”
