Brighton Marathon runner fundraiser in memory of his best friend Brighton News

A MAN is about to run the Brighton Marathon in memory of his best friend who died of a heart attack at just 17 years old.

Albert Davies, of Seven Dials, raises money for the British Heart Foundation after his friend died in 2010.

He said charity was very important to him after the death of Joshua Tuck, who suffered from heart disease.

Albert said: “I always told myself that I wanted to raise money in his memory.

“During the lockdown I started running, I realized I was better than I thought I was and saw it as an opportunity.”

Albert has been training at least five days a week for next month’s event.

He aims to run the 26.2-mile race in about four and a half hours, after running a half-marathon in under two hours a few months ago.

Albert hopes to raise around £ 350 for the charity, which funds research into heart and circulatory disease, and has already raised just over £ 300 with a fortnight before the race.

“Raising the full amount would be amazing and the icing on the cake. It will help support people in a situation similar to Josh’s and that’s what motivates me, ”he said.

Albert will join thousands of others to run the marathon on September 12, which starts at Preston Park and ends near Brighton Palace Pier.

The event will be Albert’s first fundraiser, but said it definitely won’t be his last.

“After doing this I want to do an ultra marathon and raise more money for the British Heart Foundation and also some mental health charities.

“I’ve had quite a few friends who have committed suicide due to mental health, so this is something else that I really want to fundraise for.”
