The A303, the last after a serious accident involving a overturned vehicle, closes a six-mile stretch of road Bath City News

A serious crash closed a six mile stretch of the A303 in Somerset on Monday evening and the road is not expected to reopen later this morning (Tuesday) due to police crash investigation work.

The overturned vehicle incident occurred between the A37 Podimore roundabout, Podimore, and the A3088 Cartgate roundabout, Cartgate with the road closed at 10pm.

A detour is in place via the A37 and A359 and motorists have been advised to allow more time for their journeys.

Avon and Somerset Police said the collision with serious injuries occurred between Podimore and Ilchester and that she was still at the scene.

A statement from Highways England said: “Police investigations are ongoing and the road is expected to remain closed until around 8 am.

“Avon and Somerset Police are present.

“Road users are advised to use the A3088 and A37.

“Delays are likely as closures approach, with additional travel times also expected on detour routes.

“If this closure has an impact on your planned route, please allow extra travel time. Plan ahead, you may want to change the route or even delay your trip. “

The latest information suggests the closure could impact traffic until around 11 a.m. today.
