A FURIOUS father blasted protesters who blocked the entrance to a Covid vaccination center and prevented his daughter from receiving her second vaccine.

However, the center was forced to close after hundreds of protesters gathered outside to demonstrate against its opening.

Due to the disruption, the Sussex Community NHS has asked people with vaccination appointments at the new Churchill Square center not to attend.

Neil said his daughter became “in tears and angry” when she realized she could not receive her second dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

He said: “My daughter is a university student. We would send her back to Brighton from Hampshire and take her on her new student digs the day her second jab was due.

“His meeting was at 2:15 pm and we arrived in time to see that the demonstration was taking place in front of the entrance to the center.

“When it became apparent that the center had been closed, she became tearful and angry, but this was mitigated somewhat when she received a call from the center letting her know that she will be able to enter from Wednesday. . ”

Famous conspiracy theorist and former nurse Kate Shemirani of East Sussex was among the protesters.

Neil said he heard Ms. Shemirani address the crowd through a microphone, while other protesters held signs with messages such as “Can you trust the media?”

He said: “She equated the vaccination program with the Holocaust among other things and asked her supporters to photograph the staff for one reason or another.

“I posted a tweet about the experience because of a feeling of anger that my daughter was denied access to a medical procedure, and also that the protesters were not removed from their posts directly outside the vaccination center. ”

Churchill Square Shopping Center was also evacuated after a flare of smoke went off inside.

Images showed orange smoke engulfing an area of the mall after a rocket appeared to have been placed inside a trash can.

Sussex Police are now calling for witnesses.

Chief Superintendent Justin Burtenshaw said, “We recognize the right of the public to protest and our officers will work with organizers to ensure the safety of protesters and the general public, as well as to minimize disruption.

“Investigations are currently underway into Monday’s protest, in particular into the circumstances which led to the triggering of what is believed to be a smoke bomb. No arrests were made.

“We encourage anyone with information that can assist with the investigation to contact the police online or by calling 101, citing the 048 series of 08/30.”
