Jaguar has officially unveiled a new C-Type sports car as the fourth authentically recreated continuation model, following the similarly designed D-Type, XKSS and Lightweight E-Type models.
The limited-edition C-Type Continuation was handcrafted using historic parts and equipment to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the original model’s victory at Le Mans in 1951.
Eight models will be produced initially, each true to the original Le Mans specification, driven by a hand-built 3.4-liter inline-six producing 220 hp and mated to a four-speed manual transmission. The car also has refurbished Weber carburettors and a vintage Plessey hydraulic pump.
“It’s the best version of the 1953 C-Type,” said Dan Pink, director of JLR Classic. “We used all the drawings that were made during the period and then assembled them digitally, from which the engineers then worked.
“Each of the C-Types was manufactured in such a short time that each of them is slightly different. This is the best example of what can be done when we take all the original drawings and technical specifications and have them. let’s all put it together, ”said Pink.
Owners can choose from 12 exterior colors, including Suede Green, Cream, Pastel Blue and British Racing Green, and can also add race-inspired cockades. Inside the car, eight color options are also available for the leather seats, and the car is controlled by a 15-inch Bluemel steering wheel.
The car was designed using original design specifications and AutoCAD software, a first for a Jaguar continuation model. The C-Type Continuation is also approved by the FIA, which means it can participate in historic racing events.
Most of the parts used for the continuation model were purchased and reconditioned, including its Lucas mirrors, the Brooklands three-quarter racing screen and the Smiths clocks positioned in the cockpit. Some parts were more difficult to source than others due to gaps in the Type C’s recorded history, Pink told Autocar.
