Almost New Buyer’s Guide: Mini Hatchback (mk3) Car News

Four years after launch, in 2018, Mini One and Cooper had a shot in the arm with a few styling and infotainment updates, the main one being the adoption of the flagship tail lights of the ‘Union. And then later that year, new styles called Classic, Sport, and Exclusive that helped simplify the selection process and, more aptly, streamline the new WLTP testing protocol, came into play.

With prices ranging from £ 4,500 for a 2015 One D to £ 38,000 for a 2018 John Cooper Works, there’s probably a Mk3 Mini that will fit your pocket.

BUYER ATTENTION

MotorRegular oil changes are essential, especially for the health of the variable valve timing system.

TransmissionMake sure the gears go home and stay there. Some cars report clutch wear when there is none. A dealer can reset the indicator but perform full power starts in a higher gear to see if the clutch slips ahead of them. Note: The clutch and dual-mass flywheel have to be replaced together at considerable cost, at least on the Mini One.

PilotingCheck that the electric steering is quiet and smooth. Some problems can be attributed to insufficient battery power.

ElectricEarly cars (2014-reg) may suffer from faulty wiring harnesses due to water ingress from the windshield washers. In fact, water infiltration has been a problem on a few Minis.
