Sheffield Wednesday skipper Barry Bannan admits January fears for Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Theo Corbeanu UK News

A 2-0 win at Crewe Alexandra extended a 12-game unbeaten streak in Ligue 1 and kept them within five points of automatic promotion spots.

Among the stars of the victory was Bailey Peacock-Farrell for a world-class double save just before halftime, saving his fourth penalty of the season.

He is one of six players on loan from Darren Moore’s squad, all of whom are subject to a possible recall during the January transfer window.

Moore has previously spoken of his hopes of keeping Peacock-Farrell, Lewis Wing, Theo Corbeanu, Florian Kamberi and Olamide Shodipo. Lewis Gibson’s situation will be revisited as he returns from injury to Everton.

Speaking after their victory at Crewe, captain Barry Bannan on Wednesday expressed his hope that the team would stay together, but admitted nothing was certain for the new year.

“They are great parts of the team at the minute, especially the goalkeeper, he was brilliant,” said Bannan. “But with good performance comes interest from other places, we’re not stupid.

“I would like to think they are having fun here, we have a huge following every week and we win games. It would be silly for them to leave.

Barry Bannan is hopeful Sheffield Wednesday can keep Bailey Peacock-Farrell in the next January transfer window.

“You never know what’s going on in football, we don’t know what might happen around the corner. But I, personally speaking on behalf of the boys there, we would like to keep the ones we have and lobby to win the league.

On Wednesday’s bubbling momentum, the Scotsman said: “We said after a good point in Portsmouth on Tuesday night that we had to come and build on it and get three points today.

“Obviously we would have liked to win against Portsmouth, but in the end it was a good point of battle with ten men in a difficult place.

“It was important today that we came and took the three points and supported them and I thought throughout the game that we were comfortable and that was probably one of our best performances of the season so far. “
