Man arrested on arson charges after apartment fire in Kings Road, Brighton Brighton News

A man on suspicion of arson has been arrested after a fire ravaged a beachfront apartment.

Sussex Police are investigating the cause of the Kings Road, Brighton fire yesterday afternoon.

The force has now confirmed that a 27-year-old man from Brighton has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger his life and remains in detention.

Video from the scene showed smoke billowing from the roof of a residential property in Regency Square and dozens of emergency service vehicles parked along the waterfront.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue crews tackled the blaze and used a thermal imager to search for hot spots.

A spokesperson for the service confirmed that there were no casualties.

Photos taken around 2 p.m. yesterday show paramedics working alongside police behind a cordon.

Earlier today, Sussex Police said they believed the fire was caused “on purpose”.

Kings Road A259 eastbound was closed while emergency services dealt with the fire and detours were put in place.

Buses have been diverted along Western Road to ease the pressure on traffic building up on the waterfront.

Dozens of firefighters could be seen running into the Melrose seafood restaurant to access a nearby building blaze.

Firefighters urged people to avoid the area while firefighters tackled the flames.
