A section of the A66 is closed in both directions following a serious collision.
Durham Police are leading an emergency response to the incident, which resulted in the closure of the road between the A1 (M) at Scotch Corner and the A67 junction at Bowes.
National Highways: North East said on Twitter shortly after midnight Wednesday: “# A66 is closed in both directions between # A67 (#Bowes) and # A1M (#ScotchCorner) due to a serious collision.
“All emergency services are working on scene in a response led by @DurhamPolice.”
The A66 connects Middlesbrough to Teesside in Workington in Cumbria.
