Long-running soap opera Neighbors has announced it will halt production in June after being unable to find a new broadcaster.
The show’s future had been thrown into doubt after Channel 5 confirmed last month that it would stop airing the soap opera.
It is now confirmed to be ending after production company Fremantle Media failed to find a new channel to host it.
A statement posted on the programme’s official Twitter account revealed, “We are sorry to say that after nearly 37 years and nearly 9,000 episodes aired, we must confirm that Neighbors will cease production in June.

“Following the loss of our main broadcast partner in the UK and despite a thorough search for alternative funding, we simply have no choice but to put the show on hold.
“To our amazing and loyal fans, we know this is a huge disappointment, as it is to all of us on the team. We thank you for all of your messages and support and promise to end the show on an amazing note. from now on, we celebrate the Neighbours.”
Neighbors first appeared on screens in 1985 and many household names have appeared there including Kylie Minogue, Liam Hemsworth, Jason Donovan, Alan Dale and Margot Robbie.
It originally aired on BBC One in the UK until 2008 when it moved to Channel 5.
