Also in the top 10 were The Sportsman in Kent, a former multiple winner lauded for owner Stephen Harris’s fine tasting menus and London’s top rated gastropub was The Guinea Grill in Mayfair – a firm favorite for its mixed grills and its retro pies. Critics’ favorite is also Canterbury’s The Fordwich Arms, which came eighth, while Paul Ainsworth’s Cornish pub The Mariners, which the celebrity chef recently added to his portfolio, came in at nine.
The 50 Best Gastro Pubs list is in its 13th year and uses a panel of over 400 experts, including pub operators and critics, to compile its list. This year’s highest new entry was Adam Handling’s The Loch and The Tyne in Windsor, at 27. and The Princess of Shoreditch winning Newcomer of the Year.
“After two difficult years for the hospitality industry, we are delighted to see such a strong list of contenders this year, including a new number and several new entrants,” said Top 50 Gastropubs editor Chris Lower. “I’m incredibly thrilled that Brendan and everyone at The Unruly Pig got the top spot.”
