The best pink bubbly for Valentine’s Day under £20 Wine News

Marks & Spencer Prosecco Rosé 2020, Veneto, Italy

(11%, £10 up to £8 until March 7)

The best of the pink proseccos in my tasting, well balanced and drier than some, with flavors of red fruits and lemon sorbet. The finish is clean and crisp – and note that it’s only 11% alcohol. Your Valentine’s Day aperitif, sorted.

Co-op Irresistible Eight Acres Sparkling Rosé NV, Kent, England

(11.5%, The Co-op, £18)

The Co-op brand English Pink Sparkling is a star – it carries the scent and flavor of raspberry ice cream, but it’s not sweet on the finish and will be terrific with prawns, light white fish like sole or plaice, or Sushi. It is a sparkling wine using the Champagne method, and for this quality, at a very competitive price.

Graham Beck Brut Rosé, Western Cape, South Africa

(12%, Majestic, £16.99 or £14.99 as part of a six-bottle mix)

This is made in the same long bottle aging method as champagne (displayed as ‘Méthode Cap Classique’ on the label) and has plenty of complexity and richness as a result. Expect flavors of raspberry yogurt and lemon meringue pie, but a dry finish – it could take on seafood in creamy sauces.

Champagne Veuve Devanlay Rosé Brut NV, France

(12%, Morrisons, £22, up to £17 until Feb 15)

With its salmon pink color, its notes of strawberry mousse and red cherries and its soft smoothness, it is a very nice champagne with a catchy offer. This is the one I would choose to accompany a fresh or lightly smoked salmon, or sip a shrimp risotto.

Mirabeau La Folie Sparkling Rosé NV, France

(12.5%, Waitrose and waitrosecellar.com, £14.99 until £10.99 until Feb 22)

If you like pale and delicate tapers, try this one from the excellent brand Mirabeau, based in Provence. It has light, vaporous trails of fresh strawberry and rhubarb with a clean, almost minty touch. Nice bottle too – and yes, that counts for something on February 14!
