Emergency services called flat in Montpellier Road, Brighton Brighton News

FIRE crews were called to report a “smoke-filled apartment” this afternoon.

The East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) dispatched four fire engines to a flat in Montpelier Road in Brighton after being called to a report of a ‘room full of smoke’ shortly after 2pm.

Police and an ambulance also attended the scene and the road was briefly closed.

However, the fire had been put out by people who lived in the house before firefighters arrived.

An ESFRS spokeswoman said: ‘We were called to a residential property on Montpelier Road to reports of a smoke-filled apartment.

“We had four fire engines on the scene at 2:04 p.m., the fire was extinguished before the arrival of local residents.”
