UK weather: Mercury dips below zero as -5C Arctic blast hits Britain | United Kingdom | News UK News

Maps from WXCharts show freezing conditions will continue for the next two weeks and the Met Office is warning of snow and cold winds. Weather experts say bitter conditions are expected for Sunday morning as a weather front rolls in from the east and wintry conditions are expected to continue through mid-March.

Met Office forecaster Alex Deakin said high pressure was trying to push in from the Atlantic which would mean clear skies and sunshine, but another weather front is sticking to the east of the country which is bringing clouds and rain.

Temperatures will be cold, especially at night.

He told the Mirror: “It will become a freezing, uneven freeze for the North West of England, Wales and possibly even the South West of England as well.

“Under the clouds and rain with this weather front, temperatures will be a few degrees above freezing, but elsewhere they are certainly near freezing, even in cities and towns, and in rural areas we will be well below, maybe -5C in one or two places across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

There will likely be an east-west split with clouds and rain in the east of the country where a weather front persists.

Mr Deakin continued: ‘A chilly start here (in the west) for the weekend, a frosty old start but we should see plenty of sunshine, maybe a bit of early morning fog in a few places.

“Sunny spells too for Wales and the West of England.

“It’s further east that we’re going to have this cloud and this rain.

“Now some uncertainty as to how far it will slip, whether the rain is going to come and go all day or whether it will be stuck in persistent rain, but there is certainly the threat of that for the east of Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, East Anglia and the South East. It looks rather humid here.

He added: “Beneath the cloud to the east of 5 or 6C, perhaps squeezing down to 7C in Norwich and London, it’s going to look gloomy for the time of year.”

For the next week, frigid conditions remain with the threat of wind and snow as the weather becomes less stable.

The Met Office said: ‘Sunny spells with mostly few clouds at the start during this period, with generally stronger winds than previous days and the continued risk of gales in the far west and north -Where is.

“Temperatures appear to be quite lower than normal and perhaps feeling cooler in the wind.

“Throughout the period, frontal systems push eastward, which is likely to bring strengthening winds in addition to potential snowfall.

“The main impacts will likely come from heavy rains and gales during this period.

“Closer to the end of this period, there seems to be a transition from these rather cold conditions to near normal and milder conditions.

“This will likely include clearer weather with showers in all areas.”
