He clarified that the world of Westeros was his “number one priority” right now and would remain so “until the story is told”.
Providing updates on various projects on his website blog, he said being hounded by fans about his latest book was “boring”.
He wrote: “I know for many of you only one of these projects matters. I’m sorry for you. They ALL matter to me.
“Yes, of course, I’m still working on The Winds of Winter. I said a hundred times in a hundred places, having to repeat it endlessly is just boring.
Martin also gave an update on the House of Dragon TV (PA) spin-off series.
“I made a lot of progress on The winds in 2020, and less in 2021… but “less” is not “nothing”.
“The world of Westeros, the world of A song of ice and fireis my number one priority, and will remain so until the story is told.
“But Westeros has become bigger than The Winds of Winteror even A song of ice and fire.”
News also came from the new game of thrones Spin-off TV series Dragon Housewhich finished filming in London.
Commenting on the project, Martin added, “So far I’m very excited. Dragon House wrapped in London and is now in post-production.
