Wraps peel off new 2022 Maserati Grecale ahead of reveal Car News

The Maserati Grecale appeared without camouflage for the first time ahead of its public debut on March 22.

New images posted to Instagram by Wilco Blok show rival Porsche Macan in full production spec bodywork, minus the now familiar camouflage it wore throughout a lengthy public road testing program. It’s wearing some of the promotional stickers we’ve seen in some recent teaser images, but appears largely as it will at a full official reveal in less than two weeks.

Originally slated for an unveiling last year, the Grecale was delayed due to a shortage of semiconductors preventing Maserati from beginning series production.

The company said it made the decision “in light of underlying issues that have caused disruptions in supply chains for key components needed to complete the car’s production process.” Crisis-imposed production limitations meant it would not have been able to meet anticipated global demand for the car.

The Grecale is clearly of a similar size to the Alfa Romeo Stelviowith whom he will share most of his underpinnings, and now that we’ve had a good look at the car’s final design, the influence of the greater Levante is evident.

It is named Grecale after the “fierce northeast wind from the Mediterranean Sea”. The model forms a key part of Maserati’s bold relaunch plan which it launched in 2020 with the reveal of the MC20 supercar.

Destined to play “a key role in the development of the brand”, the Porsche Macan rival will be built on the same production line as the Alfa Romeo Stelvio at the FCA plant in Cassino, Italy. Maserati is planning an investment of around €800m (£790m) in the factory.

It will also share much of its underpinnings with the Stelvio, and an all-electric version, the Folgore, is also expected to hit the line. However, combustion-engined models will use Maserati rather than Alfa engines, likely to include the 2.0-litre mild-hybrid turbo offered in the Ghibli and Levante, and a scaled-down version of the MC20’s new Nettuno V6 for the la variant. more powerful. .
