Bakers across the city are dusting off their aprons to raise money for Ukraine.
Two young bakers from Deepdene School have raised hundreds of pounds through their school’s bake sale.
Six-year-old Harley Angus-Ballard and seven-year-old Emma Steven were worried about what they saw in Ukraine and took action.
“I heard about the war from my sister, and I felt sad. I was like, ‘I want to help people,'” Harley said.

The couple raised more than £350, as school children bought individual cakes, with proceeds going to the British Red Cross Ukraine crisis appeal.
“I saw the news on TV,” Emma said. “It upset me because people were losing their homes in Ukraine to the bombings.”
Ms Keren Rosen, a second grade teacher at Deepdene, said: “The girls asked me if they could organize a fundraiser for Ukraine as it made them sad. We decided to have a bake sale.
“I’m so proud of them. They showed initiative and kindness, and their ideas helped us raise hundreds of dollars for the appeal.
Another team of volunteer bakers from the city also organizes an emergency sale.
A recent batch of Sussex Bakedown cakes
Sussex Bakedown’s ‘Cakes for Ukraine’ event will also donate its funds to the Red Cross appeal, as the group does its part to help displaced Ukrainians.
“With the huge human tragedy unfolding in Ukraine as a result of the war, we wanted to do what we could to help raise funds for the critically important DEC appeal.
“Sussex Bakedown volunteer bakers bake hundreds of treats for local food banks every week.
“We expect to have a huge selection of cakes and other goodies at Wednesday’s bake sale. We also hope to meet future volunteer bakers, who are welcome to join our ranks at any time.”
Russia is currently at war with Ukraine
The Sussex Bakedown sale will take place at the FilFil Cafe in Gardner Street on Wednesday March 16 at 11am.
