The new Ford Focus has been hit by parts shortages due to the ongoing Ukraine crisis, which means it cannot currently be equipped with the top-of-the-line infotainment system, Ford told Autocar.
In a statement sent to Autocar, the US automaker confirmed that parts shortages were affecting new facelifted Focuses due for delivery later this year.
The Focus is expected to receive a host of tech upgrades as well as a slight styling refresh as part of the facelift, including the introduction of the company’s new Sync 4 system.
“Due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, one of our parts suppliers for the updated Focus has advised that they are unable to fulfill the parts request. These parts are for the 13 screen, 2-inch Sync 4 which is part of the updated Focus,” Ford said.
Models with the smaller 8.0-inch touchscreen are unaffected.
Ford has confirmed that it is looking for a new parts supplier.
“The supply of these parts is being moved to a new location in Europe, but until this is operational, the 13.2-inch display with Sync 4 will not be available to customers,” he said. .
“We will continue to build the updated Focus with the 8.0-inch screen. We apologize to customers for any inconvenience this will cause, but hope they understand the exceptional circumstances.”
Ford also said it was working on what the current lineup might look like and the issue was “temporary”.
The new system introduces integrated heating and ventilation controls and a more efficient user interface, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice recognition and over-the-air software updates.
The Focus is built at Ford’s Saarlouis assembly plant in southwestern Germany.
