Ferrari presents a GT3 driver based on the 296 GTB Car News

Ferrari has given us a first look at its next race car replacing the 488 GT3.

Concept sketches of the car, dubbed the 296 GT3, show an aggressive, aero-heavy design, featuring a redesigned front end with a much more pronounced splitter and two large canards on either side of the bumper.

Prominent vents above the front fenders can be seen, most likely to reduce pressure build up in the wheel arches as this can cause aerodynamic lift.

While the overall design of the 296 GTB remains unchanged, widened side skirts are visible, with a colossal diffuser and a gooseneck rear spoiler visible at the rear of the car.

Based on the 296 GTB tourer, the new race The car will be built to GT3 regulations, used by a number of series around the world. Like the road car, the 296 GT3 will use a six-cylinder engine, but due to technical regulations it won’t feature a hybrid powertrain and is likely to be significantly less powerful than its road counterpart.

Although designed entirely at Ferrari headquarters in Maranello, the 296 GT3 will be developed with the help of the Oreca racing team, which is responsible for building and racing a number of GT cars at success. The French team will produce the car and support the teams that will use it in different championships.

Production of the first development car is already underway at the Oreca plant in Signes, with track testing expected to begin in the coming months. A first race is scheduled for 2023.

The 296 GT3 will replace the 488 GT3 – Ferrari’s most successful racing car of all time, with 429 wins out of 770 starts in its standard and Evo versions. When it arrives on the circuit, it will have to face the Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II, the BMW M4 GT3 and the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo, among others.
