SUV in Hove has deflated tires as part of climate action Brighton News

A HYBRID SUV has had its tires deflated overnight as part of climate activists’ action against ‘gas guzzling luxury cars’ to raise awareness of carbon emissions.

The Lexus NX 300h was seen with all its tires deflated and a poster taped to its front window on Wilbury Avenue, Hove this morning.

The car, which has a 2.5-litre petrol engine assisted by an electric motor, produces 161 grams of CO2 per kilometer. Anything below 100g/km can be considered low or good CO2 emissions.

The incident comes after a recent wave of tire deflation which started from March 8 saw several SUV type cars targeted in the city.

Tire Extinguishers, believed to be a splinter group from Extinction Rebellion, said they wanted to “make it impossible to own an SUV in urban areas of the UK”.

Sports utility vehicles have been targeted across the UK, with incidents reported in London, Bristol, Cambridge, Sheffield, Liverpool and Edinburgh.

Leaflets left on SUVs apologized to car owners for targeting their cars, but said not to take it “personally”.

A leaflet said: “You will be angry. But don’t take it personally. It’s not you, it’s your car.

“We did it because driving around urban areas in your massive vehicle has huge consequences for others.

“That’s why we took this step. You will have no trouble getting around without your energy guzzler, with walking, cycling and public transport.
