Tributes arrive for young Harrogate man Sam Gibson, 24, who died in the A59 crash Yorkshire News

Sam Gibson, of Harrogate, was killed on Sunday morning when his Peugeot 208 skidded off the road near Upper Poppleton and landed on his roof.

His cousin Tommy Hammill confirmed his death, posting on Facebook: “Absolutely devastated and heartbroken to have to write that my cousin Sam Gibson has sadly passed away in a tragic accident.

“Words cannot express how heartbroken we are as a family over the loss of Sam.

“Anyone who knew Sam knows how funny he was, he lived every day to the fullest, laughing his way through life.

“As our family begins to process what happened, we will let you know of any arrangements in the coming days.”

Mr Gibson attended Rossett School in Harrogate until 2016 and his former teachers issued a moving tribute: “Sam was a popular student in both primary and sixth grade. A leading light in the performing arts, he acted and supported other students in classic productions like ‘Oliver!’ when he was here at Rossett.

“He will be remembered as someone who was a friend to many, an advocate for those less fortunate than himself, and an active fundraiser for charity. The thoughts of the entire Rossett community are with Sam’s family at this difficult time.”

His former schoolmates also left tributes on Facebook.

Amie Jennings said: “Rest in peace Sam Gibson, you were the first person I met on the first day of year seven. We went to school together and it was great. You were the brightest light in the room and you had the kindest heart.” I can’t believe I’m typing this, sleep well honey.
