Brighton workers embark on fundraiser for YMCA Brighton News

EMPLOYEES at a digital marketing firm have plunged into the cold sea to raise over £1,000 for the YMCA.

The activity by nine workers from Oban International, based in Brighton, was part of a series of events organized by the company, dubbed the ‘Oban Chilly Challenge’.

As well as a cold dip in the sea, an employee joined thousands to run the Brighton Half Marathon for the YMCA Downslink Group (DLG).

Sophie Ruane-Lewis, who was one of the sea swimmers and helped organize the event, said, “Oban International has been supporting the YMCA DLG for four years now, and it’s a cause close to our hearts.

“As a youngster, I never knew life without a home or the support of my family and it’s hard to imagine how difficult that would be.

“It is heartbreaking to know that these challenges affect so many young people in our community every day.

“That’s why I think the work of YMCA DLG is so important.

“It’s a great organization, which offers opportunities to young people and accompanies them towards independence.”

YMCA DLG works to prevent youth homelessness in Sussex and neighboring Surrey, providing accommodation to over 750 young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness each night.

Oban employees are continuing their fundraising efforts with an internal chilli tasting challenge at the end of this month.
