Longleat Buster sea lion dies aged 26 Bath City News

Longleat has announced the sad death of a “much loved” sea lion. The safari park near Frome posted a video of Buster yesterday (March 21) as they paid a touching tribute to him.

A Longleat spokesperson said: “We are sorry to announce that Buster, our beloved male sea lion, has passed away at the age of 26.

“Buster was a larger than life character to his team of caretakers and the millions of visitors who got to see and, of course, hear him from all over the estate. Over the years, Buster has been part of our growing colony sea ‚Äč‚Äčlions on Half Mile Pond and will be missed by all.”

In response to the post, many park visitors shared their fond memories of the popular animal, Wiltshire Live reports. One person commented: “So sorry to hear your sad news, Buster was definitely a star at Longleat. His legacy lives on in his beautiful family.”

Another added: “We’ve been going to Longleat for 20 years and will always remember Buster. Such a great character. So sorry for your loss!” One person said: “He was such a handsome lad and what a life he had with his ladies and his amazing caretaking family. I will miss him. Rest up big boy.”

Another added: “Such a special animal known to all and brought such joy to visitors. Will miss seeing him but know he had a brilliant life. Lots of love for keepers at this time sad.”

As well as being popular at the park while touring, Buster has also appeared on television on the BBC show Animal Park. He has always been a crowd favourite.

Longleat House will be busier than ever once the house reopens to visitors in April after a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Great House is a masterpiece of Elizabethan architecture and home to the Marquess and Marchioness of Bath.
