Cheshire news: Warning as killer escapes jail – public says ‘stay away’ | United Kingdom | News UK News

Shane Farrington fled HMP Thorn Cross in Warrington after he was last seen at around 6.45pm on Thursday. Cheshire Constabulary were carrying out “a number of enquiries” in a bid to locate the 39-year-old.

Police said Mr Farrington was last seen wearing a dark top with white writing on the front, blue jeans, black shoes, a dark coat and a dark backpack.

He is known to have connections in the Peterborough area.

Mr Farrington was jailed again after being found guilty in 2009 of the manslaughter of a fellow prisoner at HMP Peterborough.

In a statement, Superintendent Mike Evans said: “We currently have numerous officers conducting various searches to locate Farrington.

“While our investigations are ongoing, we urge anyone who sees Farrington not to approach him but to immediately call Cheshire Police on 999 quoting IML 1230000.

“Officers will maintain a presence around the prison and in the local area to reassure the community.

“If you have any concerns, please speak to one of them.”

According to contemporary reports, Mr Farrington was part of a prison gang that had ganged up on another prisoner suspected of selling tobacco and drugs inside.

Following a blow to the head, the inmate died of a heart attack in his cell.

The attack was “designed to give him a strong warning”, investigators said.

Mr Farrington was one of several prisoners convicted of manslaughter.

At the time, Mr Farrington had previous convictions for attempted robbery in 2002 and robbery in 2009.
