People have until Thursday March 31 to apply for the new Design Your Dream interior design competition and win a two-bedroom flat at Eyewitness Works, the former Grade II listed cutlery factory in Milton Street, where a major restoration is well underway In progress .
Adam Higgins, co-founder of developer Capital&Centric, which has teamed up with Channel 4 and Remarkable TV to deliver what has been described as one of TV’s biggest prizes, said there had already been a enormous interest.
He also explained how the primetime show, in which contestants will take part in a series of design challenges to win their own dream flat, will be a great opportunity to showcase the best of Sheffield to a national TV audience. .
“A lot of times these kinds of shows tend to be based around London and new flats, but here we have the opportunity to show Sheffield at its best,” he said.
“It will be absolutely fantastic publicity for this area of Sheffield and for the city as a whole.
“Sheffield is a city that fascinates me. It’s a great place. It’s a very compact city center with great buildings and amazing public spaces like the Peace Gardens and the Winter Garden.
“There’s a really exciting vibe because there’s a lot of students and a lot of young people. It’s a proud, independent city with lots of small businesses like cafes, shops and boutiques.”
How will Channel 4’s Design Your Dream air and how can you apply to appear on the show?
Adam, who was previously involved in the development of Leopold Square, explained how the series would consist of eight one-hour shows, with each contestant given a different apartment to gradually create their own by completing a variety of challenges.
Contestants will be eliminated until the last person standing keeps the apartment they’ve already put their hearts into to make it their ideal home.
Eyewitness Works, located between The Moor and Devonshire Green, is being converted into 97 lofts and townhouses, due to go on sale later this year, and the £21million restoration is due to be completed early of 2023.
Adam explained that each apartment is slightly different due to the “higgledy piggledy” nature of the historic building, which would make it even more interesting to see how the contestants respond to different challenges depending on the space they have to work with.
Filming is set to take place this summer, with the series set to air early next year.
“It’s a big price – a two-bedroom apartment in a beautiful, listed building in the city center – so it’s no surprise there’s been a lot of interest,” Adam said.
“We had applicants from all sorts of backgrounds, some with a lot of design experience and some with less.
“Sheffield hasn’t seen a huge amount of inner city development for private landlords. There has been a lot of student accommodation built over the last decade but this is a real opportunity to bring more people to live in the city centre, which is important as retail grows and evolves.
