The all-new 2023 Lotus Eletre EV will be officially unveiled today Car News

Lotus has announced that its new electric SUV, which will be unveiled today (Tuesday March 29), will be called Eletre. Posting on Twitter, the brand said: “Lotus Eletre. Coming to life 3/29/22.”

Earlier this month, new design patents for the SUV, formerly known as the Type 132, surfaced on Australia’s online intellectual property platform, giving us our first look at the exterior of the model built in China.

The new renders gave the best look at Lotus’ first mainstream electric car, which will take on the Jaguar I-Pace, Audi E-tron Sportback and Ford Mustang Mach-E. There has also been a series of official teasers released by Hethel.

It will be defined by a dramatic angular styling treatment that seeks to bring it in line with the new Lotus Emira sports car – the crescent-shaped headlamps, wraparound taillight bar and protruding leading edge of the bonnet are the ties the most obvious. A steeply sloping roofline, slim mirror cameras, flush door handles, sculpted side panels and prominent rear spoiler suggest a focus on aero efficiency – which should maximize its reach – and renders also show the Type 132’s active aero panel above the front splitter.

The SUV’s active grille shutter, which features a series of hexagons divided into triangular segments, is touted as a “genuine Lotus air management system” that serves a dual purpose, both cooling the car and improving its front aerodynamics.

Lotus previewed some of the SUV’s key details in an earlier video, titled Energy and Light, with the themes “heart, power, energy and soul”.
