BBC’s Sally Nugent speaks out as co-host Dan Walker leaves Breakfast for Channel 5 UK News

BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent has spoken out to react to the news that Dan Walker is leaving the show for a job at Channel 5, saying the pair are “friends”, not just colleagues.

Dan got rather emotional last year when his longtime co-host Louise Minchin left the program after nearly two decades of presenting. And now the Strictly 2021 contestant follows Louise, who starred in I Am A Celebrity, out the door.

Dan shocked BBC viewers when he shared a message from Channel 5 confirming his new role as 5 News host. In a video that accompanied the tweet, Dan said: “I’m really excited but this has also been a massive decision for me as I love BBC Breakfast, love working alongside Sally (Nugent) and love the team there.

“But Channel 5 came in with big ambitions, with big plans and I don’t think opportunities like this come around very often and I can’t wait.”

Before appearing on Tuesday’s BBC Breakfast alongside Dan, Sally took to Twitter to break her silence on news of her work. Sharing the video, she wrote, “We’re not just co-workers but we’re friends too. Dan is just awesome to sit next to. I’ll miss him. Come on and be fabulous.”

Like Dan’s many followers, Sally, who was given the BBC Breakfast job after Louise’s departure, drew a strong reaction from her own fans on social media. One replied: “Sally, you’ll soon have another partner in crime I’m sure, but I’ve loved you both. Over the years we’ve watched a lot of beautiful partnerships on the couch – everyone is so lovely to each other, so I’m sure the friendships will continue.”

A second said, “Even before you were officially paired (and you’ve always been brilliant with Louise), the chemistry in those sports segments or those vacation rotations was just different! Too bad it didn’t last. a long time, but I wish you all the best!” “
