Kinder Surprise recall widened due to food poisoning fears Business

A recall of Kinder Surprise Eggs has been extended to more products, including Kinder Mini Eggs and Kinder Egg Hunt Kits, because they may be contaminated with salmonella, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) said.

The extended recall follows the 20g eggs or three-pack eggs with an expiration date between July 11, 2022 and October 7, 2022 recalled on Monday.

The UK Health Safety Agency said 63 people in the UK, mostly young children, are known to have been infected with salmonella during the sweets-linked outbreak. No deaths have been reported.

The recall now applies to:

• 20g of eggs or three packs of eggs with a best before date of all dates up to and including October 7
• Kinder Surprise packs of 100g with an expiry date between April 20 and August 21
• Kinder Eggs Mini packs of 75g with an expiry date between April 20 and August 21
• Kinder Egg Hunt Kits 150g with best before dates April 21 – August 21
• Kinder Schokobons 200g with a best before date of April 20 to August 21

Ferrero, which makes the products, is recalling the lots due to the possible presence of salmonella, the FSA said.

Ferrero said it decided to recall more products because they were made at the same factory in Belgium in the same time frame.

“We are working with retailers to ensure these products are no longer available for purchase and ask consumers, who have any of these products listed with the above expiration dates, to please keep the product and to contact our customer service team. No other Ferrero and Kinder products are affected by this voluntary recall,” the company said.

The FSA’s Tina Potter said she had taken action with local authorities and Belgian authorities to minimize any risk.

“We welcome the precautionary approach taken by Ferrero and advise consumers not to eat any of the products listed in the FSA alert. It is really important that consumers follow this advice to avoid the risk of contracting poisoning. salmonella,” she said. .

Dr Lesley Larkin from the Health Security Agency said: “Salmonellosis symptoms usually resolve within a few days. However, symptoms can be more severe, particularly in young children and those with weakened immune systems. Anyone concerned they may have symptoms of salmonellosis should contact their GP or call NHS 111.

“Salmonella can be passed from person to person, so anyone affected should follow good hygiene practices, such as washing their hands thoroughly after using the toilet and avoiding handling food for others in as possible, if you have symptoms.”
