Man arrested after teenage girl allegedly raped in popular North East Park UK News

A man has been arrested after a teenage girl was allegedly raped at a popular park in the North East.

Durham Constabulary have launched an investigation following a report that a teenage girl was attacked by a man in Stanhope Park, Darlington at around 11.30pm yesterday (April 8). Minutes after receiving the initial call, police arrested a nearby 21-year-old man in connection with the incident. He was taken into custody where he remains.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing and detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. Officers are keen to locate three girls who were sitting on a nearby park bench and may have witnessed the incident.

The suspect is described as approximately 5ft 7in tall, with black hair. He wore a dark-colored puffer jacket and cap, dark tracksuit bottoms, and flip-flops.

Much of the park was cordoned off on Saturday and police remained at the scene as a team of crime scene investigators searched the area, Teesside Live reports. The park remains open to members of the public.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation should call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 545 of April 8.
