Fundraiser launched for Chichester nurse whose home was destroyed in a fire Brighton News

FRIENDS are mobilizing to help a former nurse whose home was destroyed by fire.

Su Ryan, 64, was devastated when her Chichester home burned down in the blaze on Wednesday April 6.

The house is now uninhabitable. Lack of insurance and savings meant that Su was left homeless.

Restoration work is estimated at around £200,000.

The Argous:

Now Su’s friends Naomi Franklin and Kelly Ryan have started a Gofundme page to help her start over.

Su worked as a mental health nurse at Graylingwell Psychiatric Hospital in Chichester for several decades and Naomi describes her as “selfless, caring and compassionate”.

Naomi, 32, said: ‘During the pandemic, although unable to work due to health issues, Su walked away creating hundreds of homemade face masks and other PPE for her NHS colleagues from his own pocket and his kindness.

The Argous:

“Most recently, she was part of a locally organized campaign to collect, assemble and send hundreds of boxes to support families fleeing war.

“These are just a few examples of his unwavering empathy and generosity.

The Argous:

“She gives more of herself than most to anyone in need and now we wish we could pay her back in kind.”

Naomi and Kelly have also asked all tradespeople who are able to volunteer their time, all retailers who can supply clothing or furniture and all suppliers who can supply household materials to get in touch. .

Naomi added, “Su sparks joy. She’s full of life.

“Those of us who are lucky enough to call her our family or our friend, or who have received her wonderful care, and even those who have not met Su but have been touched with mental health and supported by the NHS, it’s our time to show her how grateful we are to her, how much she deserves our love and her own home. And how communities can come together to care for our own.
