the Easter holiday is now over, but you can still boost your annual vacation this year – with the possibility of getting 38 days off work using just 15 days of your vacation pay.
You can maximize your vacation by determining the best time to take annual leave for the rest of the year.
Incorporating public holidays and weekends into the timing of your annual leave means you can take a longer break for your summer trip.
Here’s when the next public holidays are and when is the best time to book your free time.
When are the public holidays in 2022?
The next public holidays will be in May, June and August, and two more in December.
In June, workers will have an extra break to celebrate the historic milestone of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Thursday June 2 and Friday June 3 are public holidays – taking the previous three days, from May 30 to June 1, you will have nine consecutive days off.
As of now, there are six additional holidays in the calendar for 2022:
May 2 (early May holiday)
June 2 (spring holiday)
June 3 (Platinum Jubilee holiday)
August 29 (summer holiday)
December 27 (Christmas Day replacement)
When is the best time to book annual leave?
If you’re able to book April 25-29, you’ll end up with 10 consecutive days off, using only five days of your annual leave.
Taking annual leave on May 30 and 31, as well as June 1, means you’ll be off work for nine days, but using only three of your vacation allowance.
Workers who book furlough from August 30 to September 2 will also get a nine-day break.
Christmas falls on a Sunday and therefore this year the public holidays are Monday December 26th and Tuesday December 27th.
By booking from December 28 to 30, you can get 10 consecutive days off from December 24 to January 2, 2023.
These days will be very popular annual leave dates among your colleagues, so it is important to keep in mind that you will have some competition when choosing these days off.
