A woman charged with murder in connection with a fatal stabbing in Somerset has appeared in court. Dawn Lewis, of Chilkwell Street, Glastonbury, appeared briefly at Yeovil Magistrates’ Court today (April 22).

His charge follows the death of Glenn Richards, 61, at a property on Chilkwell Street in the early hours of Tuesday (April 19). Mr Richards died at the scene after being stabbed.

A post-mortem examination concluded that the preliminary cause of Mr Richards’ death was multiple stab wounds, police said. His next of kin have been notified and are being kept up to date by specially trained Family Liaison Officers.

In a police statement on Thursday, Chief Inspector Andrew Pritchard of Avon and Somerset Police said: ‘We recognize that continued policing activity in the area may cause alarm and I would like to reassure Neighborhood Officers in the community who remain in the area if anyone wishes a full investigation is underway and although we have reduced the size of the cordon, we anticipate that it may still be a few days before we complete all of our investigations.

The police statement adds: ‘Anyone with information about this incident who has not yet spoken to police is asked to call us on 101, providing the call handler with reference number 5222091818.’
