The Boundary Club was once a thriving venue, home to Abbey Lane Junior Football Club and a number of senior amateur teams.

The premises were already empty, with the club having moved elsewhere, when the building was destroyed by yobs in 2017.

In 2019, the six-acre plot was put on the market with a guide price of £250,000-£300,000.

It was described at the time as an opportunity for residential or mixed-use development, with the business case stating that such a project was “fully possible, but will take time”.

Nicholson and Co, which handled the sale, said at the time that 23 bids had been received “over a wide range of sums and intended uses”.

The company added: “The site will be safe and secure from time to time, the best future for the site and the locality continued without a doubt – a very exciting sale.”
