Elon Musk attacks Twitter for ‘inappropriate’ ban on anti-Biden newspaper Business

Mr Musk said: “Suspending the Twitter account of a major news organization for publishing a true story was obviously incredibly inappropriate.”

Ms Gadde also played a pivotal role in the decision to ban Donald Trump from Twitter for inciting a riot at the US Capitol that left five people dead.

Twitter froze the New York Post’s account when it posted about compromising emails on Hunter Biden’s laptop in the run-up to the 2020 election.

Twitter has banned the New York Post for distributing pirated material. But the social media platform was forced to reverse its decision when it was criticized for its brutality.

Politico has now reported that Gadde broke down in tears when she told her team about Mr Musk’s takeover in a video call on Monday. A Twitter spokesperson said Gadde “became emotional discussing the impact of her team and the pride she feels in them.”

Twitter marketing director Leslie Berland also came under pressure after a video of her comments about Mr Musk was leaked online to Project Veritas.

Mr. Musk is widely expected to remove restrictions on free speech if his acquisition goes through.

Announcing the deal, Mr Musk said: “Free speech is the foundation of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital public square where issues vital to the future of humanity are debated.”

But his plans sparked a backlash from Amnesty International, Labor London Mayor Sadiq Khan and actress Jameela Jamil.

Mr Khan said: “Free speech is vital, but free speech does not mean a free pass for hate.

“Hate speech online fans the flames of prejudice and leads to appalling and tragic violence in the real world.

Mr Musk has since called an “extreme antibody reaction” to the deal from people who “fear free speech”.
