The award-winning Somerset farm that sells the tastiest donuts in the county Bath City News

If you’re a donut fan, you must visit Rumwell Farm Shop – an award-winning outlet on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington. In addition to selling an impressive range of hyperlocal products, the shop is well known for its selection of freshly made donuts.

They’re cleverly placed just before you reach checkout, with clips and paper bags readily available to encourage you to choose. There are even many ready-to-use bundles in boxes to save you the hassle.

Introduced in 2020, donuts have proven extremely popular, with many varieties being produced over the years, such as apple and custard and salted caramel. The current flavor of the month is very much in line with the Easter theme – a “Mini Egg” offer. It’s a deliciously decadent number with tempting pink icing.

The store’s bakery manager, Bob Boulton, affectionately known as ‘Bob the Baker’, said: “We use a recipe from the 1930s and it’s very popular. While supermarkets used a premix, we slowly rise our dough overnight to produce the best flavor.”

And in honor of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee next month, Rumwell Farm Shop has invited residents of Somerset to submit designs for a royal donut. Winners will have their creation designed and created, then crowned “Donut of the Month for June”.

Shop co-owner Anne Mitchell said: “Our bespoke and traditional donuts, which our team of bakers make on site, have been hugely popular since we started making them a few years ago, so we have thought we’d have fun and run a contest to create a Jubilee donut fit for royalty.

“We ask adults and children to create a unique donut filling and submit it to us. The winner will see their donut made and sold in our bakery throughout the month of June.

“A winner will be chosen and announced on our social media pages on May 16. He will also receive 12 donuts of his choice and will be asked to collect his prize and have his photo taken for publicity, including social media, before the end of May. . Children who enter must have their submissions sent by their parents or guardians and they will have to give their permission for publicity.

Rumwell Farm Shop is an independent, award-winning family business owned by the Mitchell family. Originally a potato store, David and Anne Mitchell started selling their free-range potatoes and eggs 25 years ago.

The shop also has a traditional butcher’s counter selling its farm-raised pork and Rumwell Angus beef. There is also the Rumwell Flower Shed on site, a delicatessen, bakery, jam shop, food hall, wine cellar and gift room.
