Weston-Super-Mare and Burnham-on-Sea rank among the worst of Britain’s best seaside resorts Bath City News

Weston-Super-Mare and Burnham-on-Sea rank well below the list of Britain’s best seaside resorts published by consumer group Which? Burnham cleared a total of 51% as a value score to finish in the last five. Weston wasn’t much higher at 58%. The list notes that UK resorts are experiencing “a surge in popularity” during the pandemic as many have chosen to vacation in the UK.

Topping the list – for the second year in a row – is Bamburgh, a Northumberland coastal village that topped 87 destinations in a survey of more than 4,300 people. Bamburgh scored five stars for its beaches, seafront, tranquility, scenery and value for money – with an overall rating of 87%.B Which? says respondents to this year’s survey praised the beauty of Bamburgh, describing the clifftop castle as “spectacular”.

Wales took three of the top six spots with Llandudno in second. Hotels there average £95 a night, proving that “for popular places there’s no need to break the bank”, according to Which?. Ranked third, St Andrews, Fife is home to Scotland’s oldest university, a world-class golf course and a web of medieval streets to explore.

Some 51 destinations across Britain scored at least 70% in the survey. The last five stations were Skegness, Lincolnshire; Bognor Regis, West Sussex; Southend, Essex; Great Yarmouth, Norfolk; and Burnham-on-Sea. Weston-Super-Mare was not much higher.

Rory Boland, editor of Which? Travel said: ‘The UK seaside hasn’t exploded like this since the 1960s.’ a lot, even with the lifting of restrictions on foreign travel.

“Prices for a stay in the UK have gone up, but there’s no need to pay more. For a low-budget vacation, it is better to aim for an off-season trip. “Head to one of the many good value resorts with your bucket and spade, an empty stomach for cotton candy and a stack of 2 pence coins and go strike it rich on the slot machines.”
