Motorists caught speeding on Somerset roads including the M5, M4 and A303 Bath City News

Every week, Bath Magistrates’ Court imposes heavy fines on speeding motorists caught in the act on Somerset’s roads. Most cases are single court proceedings – meaning the person does not show up in court because the offense is not one for which you can be sent to jail.

Yet the courts disqualify many drivers for their unacceptable behavior on the roads. Driving safely is of paramount importance as often Somerset Live has to report on the horrific fatalities that occur in our area where families are devastated by an incident on the road.

It is also important to see how speeding cases are handled by the courts in the public interest. On March 30, a number of motorists received penalties – some went too fast on the M5, M4 or A303 while others drove through stop signs or missed lane signals. One nearly went 100mph on the M4 and a 17-year-old from Taunton was fined hundreds of pounds for driving without the proper licence.
