It’s official – Somerset cider really is the best in the world Bath City News

It’s a great story for Somerset. We always knew we were the best county for cider making, our terroir is absolutely perfect, but now it’s confirmed.

A well-known and historic family cider house in Somerset has won a major national award in London. Sheppy’s cider, which has been making cider for over 200 years and six generations in Somerset, won a prestigious award at the ceremony at Guildhall, London.

It received gold for its new cider, Vintage Cloudy, at the International Brewing and Cider Awards, dubbed the Oscars of the beverage industry, as well as other awards for some of its other ciders.

As one of the oldest and most respected cider families in the world, Sheppy’s is extremely proud to add these much-loved accolades to its growing list of awards.

Held at London’s Guildhall, Sheppy’s managing director, David Sheppy, and director, Louisa Sheppy, were on hand to collect their trophies at what is the oldest and most distinguished ceremony of its kind.

Sheppy’s is one of the oldest cider making families in the Southwest. It all started in 1816 on the family farm between Taunton and Wellington.

They now have a huge farm at Three Bridges, Bradford-on-Tone, Taunton where the famous orchards are located and they also have a fantastic museum of rural life, tea room, farm shop and a herd of Longhorns .

It’s a great place to visit, you can learn all about the art of cider making and the history of this amazing Somerset story, and if you haven’t tasted Sheppy’s delicious cider yet, you’re missing out. really something.

Set in 90 acres of orchards, Sheppy’s Cider Farm caters for the whole family. At its heart stands a beautiful cider house which has been beautifully restored to become the Maison du Cidre today.

Where once you would have found loads of apples, you will now find an award-winning farm shop, delicatessen, butcher, café, restaurant and bar selling a variety of local delicacies.

There are designated walks around the orchards which will take you past the children’s play area, the duck pond and of course the cider making area.

The family was thrilled to learn that their hard work of more than 200 years was being recognized with the highest industry accolades in the country.

Sheppy’s Managing Director, David Sheppy, said: “We are beyond delighted to have won several accolades at the International Brewing and Cider Awards, and to be able to attend the first awards ceremony after the pandemic was extremely special.

“As one of only three cider makers to win an award, we couldn’t be prouder that our newest cider has been recognized. The fact that other cider makers recognize us at this level demonstrates the quality of our cider and the skills of our team. »
