TalkTV ratings plummet as viewers tune out of Piers Morgan Business

Meanwhile, the drop was more acute in the hours either side of Mr. Morgan’s new show.

The News Desk with Tom Newton-Dunn went from an average of 54,200 viewers between 7 and 8 p.m. on launch night to just 3,600 a week later.

That compares to an average of 42,000 people watching GB News’ flagship show presented by Nigel Farage on Monday.

Sky News and BBC News reached 55,600 and 167,100 respectively over the period.

The Talk with Sharon Osbourne has also struggled after dropping from an average of 43,900 to 6,000 between 9pm and 10pm over the past week.

This compared to GB News 44,600, Sky News 43,900 and BBC News 152,900 for the same period.

Gill Hind, television director at Enders Analysis, an independent media consultancy, said it was too early to judge whether the channel owned by Mr Murdoch’s News UK will be a success.

“TalkTV is not a standalone television channel,” she said. “It’s just one aspect of what News UK wants to do in terms of a multimedia approach going forward.

“Whatever your audience is on the first night, you would expect it to drop massively – especially since they started with Trump. I think they have some great guests coming over the next few weeks, so I think you’ll see it develop over a period of time.

“And it doesn’t matter what the audience looks like in the UK, but also what it looks like in America and Australia [where Piers Morgan Uncensored will also be broadcast].”

As well as TalkTV, News UK owns the national Times, Sunday Times and Sun newspapers, as well as radio stations such as Virgin and TalkSport.
