Speculation is rife over who could replace Anne Robinson on Countdown, with chances to put a Channel 4 show legend in rfame for a shock return.

After serving as the long-running afternoon series presenter for a year, it has been confirmed that ex-weakest link matriarch Anne will be stepping down soon, with Anne releasing a statement which read: ”I had a great pleasure in hosting this wonderful show. And I stayed longer than I had registered. Now is the time for an older woman to take the reins.

“I also hope I’ve encouraged TV bosses to realize that not all women in their bad late 60s are in nursing homes playing bingo and watching magic tricks.”

The minute the release of Anne’s Countdown was announced, the show’s loyal fans began tossing names in the ring on Twitter about who her successor will be. And now the bookmakers betting fair had their say on the favourites, with The Weakest Link host Romesh Ranaganathan rebooting the current favorite and math wizard and Pride of Britain host Carol Vorderman coming in second.
