Council denounces vandalism in Hailsham Park Brighton News

A children’s playground has been targeted by vandals for the second time in a week.

Play equipment at Western Road Recreation Ground, Hailsham, was covered in pink paint last week and has since been damaged again.

The paint was removed on Friday, but vandals returned a few hours later and destroyed the swing by blowing a hole in it.

Hailsham City Council must now remove the equipment after deciding it is unsafe.

John Harrison, Town Clerk to the council, said: “We are appalled by the recent spate of vandalism at the Western Road Recreation Ground children’s play area.

“This is vandalism to a facility used daily by our community and is unacceptable anti-social behavior.”

“A lot of money and time is spent maintaining the city’s playgrounds and providing these much needed facilities for children in the local community. So if anyone has any information regarding the incident or witnessed suspicious behavior on the site, please report it to Sussex Police as soon as possible.”
