Mercedes launches exclusive Mythos brand in a radical shift in luxury Car News

“We see great potential here to expand our premium portfolio with even more compelling products for our customers.”

By focusing on its most luxurious and cost-effective products, Mercedes aims to “deliver a solid financial result even in more difficult market conditions”.

It is aiming for an operating margin of 14% by the middle of the decade and is supporting that goal by diverting 75% of its overall investment to developing these higher-margin cars.

Like many manufacturers, it has prioritized the production of more expensive models throughout the current supply chain crisis, with a 30% increase in demand for high-end models helping to generate an increase 9% of revenues last year, even as production volumes fell 5%.

Mercedes said it will now focus on three distinct car categories: premium luxury, base luxury and entry-level luxury.

Premium luxury includes all AMG and Maybach vehicles; the most expensive EQ-badged electric vehicles; Mercedes S-Class, Mercedes GLS and Mercedes G-Class derivatives; and all limited edition models.

A crucial element of this new strategy will be the Maybach version of the new EQS SUV, which was previewed at the Munich Motor Show last year and is expected to arrive in dealerships in 2023.
