Testimony after person hit by van in Brighton Brighton News

A WITNESS heard someone shout ‘stop, stop’ before a person was hit by a van this morning.

The accident happened around 11am in Gloucester Road, Brighton, near the junction of Tidy Street.

Sussex Police closed off part of the road and put up tape. There were clothes strewn on the floor, some with blood on them.

A passerby heard screams as the van apparently hit the person in Gloucester Road.

He said, “I heard someone shout ‘stop, stop, stop!’ and I heard what sounded like banging on the side of the van.

“I guess someone got knocked down, but it all happened so fast.

“People ran very fast and I didn’t want to see what had happened. Enough people were there with their phones calling for help.

“I didn’t want to see anything horrible. There were a lot of people taking care of the scene.

“The police took about 20 minutes to arrive, the ambulance took even longer.”

Traffic is doing well in the area, but people are advised to avoid the North Laine area.

Sussex Police have confirmed that an 80-year-old woman is in hospital with serious injuries.
